Quite often when I type the word - denomination - I develop typists dyslexia and type the word - demonination instead. A Freudian slip perhaps or is there a deeper message?
When the word "denomination" is used, chances are that you are talking about churches or money. Maybe that is also another interesting coincidence.
We are certain that God is not the author of confusion (1 Corinthians 14:33) and we know who is the father of lies. No doubt Satan is proud of his accomplishment of dividing God's people with so many divisions of religious beliefs. Divisions have been created when a religious man gets a revelation on a certain aspect and creates his own version of "the truth". Apparently there are a lot of portions to go around.
The recent count is that there are over 27,000 denominations available to anyone who wants to find a church. But where would a person start? For me, I was raised in the Church of God of Prophecy organization. As I understand it, our particular organization was split from the Church of God. According to historical documents, the split was a result of questionable financial management and leadership by A.J. Tomlinson. Both the Church of God and Church of God of Prophecy are categorized as Pentecostal churches. Basically, most Pentecostal churches grew out of the Holiness movement, which was a part of the Methodists.
But what about a person that wants to start attending a church? How do they decide?
Most people say they want to attend a church that preaches the "truth" and believes in the "bible". This still does not narrow down the choices. Many organizations SAY they teach the truth and believe in the Bible but their "truth" may be slanted according to the way their founder interprets it.
It can be confusing. No wonder Satan enjoys the word denomination. Next to a demon, it is a valuable tool for Him. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Milton Hooper has been a writer for over 10 years.
